It has been a busy year for your local Chamber with many programs completed through the Sunny Cessnock Main Street initiative. Not only has the Chamber contributed to the programs through membership funds and grants received through the Dept of State and Regional Development and the Cessnock Council but the momentum of these programs had just started to really gain some of the positive results we can see in the CBD area today. It is therefore disappointing that the Cessnock Councilors recently omitted to vote for any CBD town projects or economic development projects that would impact on the CBD area of town. Instead they found the discretionary votes to provide $32,500 to the Kurri Kurri Town Coordinator and $ 25,000 for the Lovedale Chamber. What ever happened to the promises of more support from the Cessnock Council to continue our Main Street Program into 2006/2007?

?

Fare not! We have managed to achieve great things within the area and will continue to do so regardless of the support or lack of support from our local government. The business community continues to thrive but this recent set back will only make the Chamber more determined than ever to encourage, support, communicate and educate our businesses in town ? providing what our CBD needs to keep it alive. If you haven?t joined our Chamber yet ? please do so now. Many great opportunities are there for you to take advantage of by attending our meetings and other functions. Keep the night of the 20 October 2006 free for our Customer Service Awards and encourage your staff to do the best they can to increase their customer service today. It will pay off big dividends in the end.

Happy trading!
